What many look a lifetime for, only a few find. This could be the one. If you are an avid outdoors person with a keen likeness for privacy and beauty, this pristine parcel could be your dream come true. Backed by a high ridge of virgin white and red pine this unique property has 1/4 mile frontage on the Moose River. First bought from the US Government in 1901 by JC French, a 25 year old entreprenuer, was after the red and white pine. It was an era of the timber baron. A century later the land is still as beautiful as ever. Parts of the property had it's mature poplar timber harvested aproximately 10 years ago. Those harvested areas are now growing with young vibrant poplar trees providing attraction to the many whitetail deer that make this property their home.
The property has several building sites. One being right on Moose River at French Rapids. Imagine going to sleep at night with the sound of the gurgling rapids. If you're one of those folks who needs some peace of mind it's far better then the psyche couch. Another site is nestled on the high rock ridge that provides a "knock your socks off" view of the the Moose River and the pine covered ridges to the south.
The property isn't easy to get to. If it was, somebody would probably be enjoying its values and the owner would be ensuring it had a place in the family trust into perpetuity. Being harder to get to does have its obvious benefits. Once you get your ATV across the Ash River you'll travel the Moose River grade which is an old railroad bed that was used in the 1910-1920 era. It was used to transport the vast amount of red and white pine timber that was harvested in this area. This access is also used by the few fortunate property owners in this wilderness area of Ash River to Johnson Lake.
If you're a hunter this area bounds with wildlife such as small game, bear, moose, and particularly trophy whitetail deer. If you're an avid fisherman, the Ash River is your gateway to Kabatogama and Namakan Lakes. Serveral marinas are located at the end of the Ash River Trail where you can keep your boat. This area also has local lodging and dining. So, you could still enjoy the wilderness and only be a short ride to civilization.
Directions to the property:
Once at the end of the end of Ash River trail just beyond Ash Ka Nam resort is a public parking lot on the left side of the road. Directly across from the parking lot is the Ash River and ATV trail (Moose River Grade) on the opposite side of the river. You'll need to transport you and your ATV across the 100 ft. wide river. You can do this by contacting the folks at Ash Ka Nam and being they have a small barge that will transport you and you ATV to the other side. You'll have to pay for this, but it's reasonable. Once across, you'll take the ATV trail which follows along the Ash River North about a 1/4 of a mile, where it turns due east, where you'll travel for approx. three miles. At this point the ATV trail follows beside the Moose River where you can see a steep rock ridge on the North side. There is also a rumbling rapids of water bubbling over the rocks in this location. This is Little Bear Rapids. Just ahead, on the left side you'll see a side trail that will take you to the Moose River and/or bridge at French Rapids. At this location you are looking directly at the property.
